I’M A TRANSLATOR. I'M AN INTERPRETER.

WHAT’S YOUR SUPERPOWER?

The UN 202O Theme is

"Finding the words for a world in crisis"

Each year, translators, interpreters and terminologists celebrate International Translation Day on 30 September, the feast of St. Jerome, the patron Saint of Translators.

In 2017 an historical milestone was achieved for all professional translators, interpreters and terminologists, with the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopting Resolution A/RES/71/288, recognising the role of professional translation in connecting nations, and fostering peace, understanding and development.

In the same resolution, the United Nations General Assembly declared 30 September to be UN International Translation Day, celebrated across the entire UN network and the world including Australia.

International Translator Day on 30 September 2020 will be marked with many and varied events organised by Language Experts by providing professional development training opportunities during September 2020 prior to and on the actual day, culminating with a National Webinar giving practitioners an unique opportunity to celebrate this one and only day in our Calendar.

All events and sessions will aim to create awareness, information and educating practitioners and the public about the duties and responsibilities of professional translators and interpreters in Australia.

The work of translators and interpreters is still being carried out silently and diligently every single day, often without thanks or recognition and especially now during difficult times around the world and in Australia.

This year Language Experts will deliver a special live session which will be video recorded depicting this year’s theme titled “Finding the words for a World in crisis”.

Language Experts invites all practitioners to participate in this year’s celebrations by submitting an article between 300-500 words on this year’s theme “Finding the words for a World in crisis”. Articles can be sent to training@languageexperts.com.au

All participants who submit an article are eligible to receive a complementary Webinar provided by Language Experts worth 10 pd points. The winners of the competition will receive a complementary professional development course worth 20 pd points as well as an opportunity to have their articles published on Language Experts websites and social media platforms.  The closing date for the competition is 27 September 2020.

All submissions will be assessed independently and the winners will be announced on
30 September 2020 during the live session scheduled at 12:00pm AEST.

We look forward to your submissions!
